लॉन्ग-ड्राइव

मेरे ऊपर आँख मिचौली खेलते, तुम्हारे हाथ
जिस्म पर गुदगुदियाँ ढूँढने लगते हैं ख़ुशी से

चलो टैक्सी में बैठ लॉन्ग-ड्राइव पर चलते हैं।

Playing hide and seek upon me, your hands,
With joyful glee seek out tickles on my body,

Come, let us go for a long ride in a taxi-cab.

तपिश

आधी रात जब यूँ दोहर ज़रा हट जाए कभी
तो नींद काँप सी जाती है, सर्द झोंके में इक

उस नर्म तपिश का इंतज़ार है, जो तुम हो।

Sometimes in the night when the duvet slides off,
Sleep kind of quivers, in a current of goose chill,

I lie in wait for that plush warmth, which is you.

बासी

आज-कल जब भी लिखने बैठता हूँ तो बार बार वही पुराने जुमले
वही बासी मिसरे, जितना सेकूँ सोच की आँच पर ताज़ा नहीं होते

क्यों दर्द के अलफ़ाज़ अक्सर ख़ुशी के लफ़्ज़ों से ज़्यादा छूँ लेते हैं?

Whenever I sit to write these days, the same old metaphors repeat,
The same stale expressions; my thoughts fail to warm them afresh,

Why often are the verses of pain more affecting than those of joy?

शुक्र है

जाने किस क़लम से वो लिखता है
किस रंग की सियाही से लिखता है

क़िस्मत पर अब, यक़ीं हो चला है।

Wonder with which pen does He write,
With what colour of ink does He write,

I've begun to believe in what destiny is.

याद

महक में, सुनने में, देखने में ग़ुज़रे हुए लम्हों सी होती है
मगर एहसास में नम और स्वाद में नमकीन सी होती है

जो यूँ ही बैठे-बैठे आँखों से छलक जातीं हैं तुम्हारे न होते।

यक़ीन

किया करते थे क्यों कि कहा गया था
अहसास मगर ऐसा कभी न होता था

तुम यूँ आई, इबादत पर यक़ीं आया।

I used to do only because I was told to,
But there never was any feeling as this,

You arrived, as did my belief in prayer. 

आँखमिचौली

छोटी छोटी ख़ुशियाँ अब ऐसे छूँ लेती हैं मन को जैसे
बर्सों आँखमिचौली खेलता बचपन, अब पकड़ा गया

यूँ खिल जाती हो तुम के जैसे बिजली रौशन हुई हो।

Momentary happinesses these days, touch this heart so as if,
The childhood long playing hide-n-seek, now finally caught,

You just brighten up as if lightening electricity brightens up.
